Obituary of Winnifred Rathburn

It is with heavy hearts the family of Winnifred Rathburn, loving wife of the late Irven Rathburn, announce her peaceful passing which occurred on May12, 2017 at Rockmaura Nursing Home, Saint John. Born August 11, 1924 in Isle Aux Morts, Newfoundland she was a daughter to the late James and Jesse (Walters) Harvey. Winnifred had a passion for growing flowers especially dahlias and lilac trees. Her faith was important to her and loved reading her bible and being active with her church. Above all else, Winnifred loved to spend time with her family especially her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Winnifred leaves behind to grieve, her sons: Kevin (Elsie) Coleman , Jim (Brenda) Rathburn , Reg (Gloria) Rathburn and Don Rathburn (Debbie Martin); daughters: Barb (Clinton) Mercer, Marg (Reg) Allen, Linda Johanson, Pat (Steven) Whittaker and Cindy (Fenton) Whittaker; sister Sadie (George) Organ; 24 grandchildren as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Winnifred was predeceased by her siblings: Stephen, George, Cornilius, Ida, Arch, Johnny and Albert. Winnifred’s family would like to thank the staff at Hopewell Court at Rocmaura Nursing Home for the dedicated care and compassion they showed her during her stay there. These "angels" are considered part of Winnifred’s extended family. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, (634-7424).
