Obituary of Edith Cecilia Phillips

The death of Edith Phillips of Saint John, beloved wife of Donald Phillips occurred on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born on February 5, 1927 in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Collingwood and Sarah (Russell) Burgess. During her working career, Edith was employed in retail at Calps. She always treasured the times spent with her precious grandchildren and will be remembered as a loving and devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. In addition to her husband of 68 years, Donald, Edith is also survived by daughters, Joan Cosman (Stewart) and Claire Hickman (Douglas), all of Saint John; sister, Joan Burgess of Saint John; grandchildren, Jennifer McFadden (Richard) of Saint John, Derek and Mark Cosman, both of Saint John, Greg Hickman of Ottawa and Josh Hickman of Saint John; great-grandchildren, Maria and Isabella Cosman and Philip, Claire, Heidi and Lily McFadden; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her sister, Ruth Burgess. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Friday, March 31, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Sts. Joachim and Ann Parish, 135 Simpson Drive, Saint John on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Bobby’s Hospice, Alzheimer Society of NB or a charity of the donor’s choice.
