Obituary of Joseph Allen Haggerty

It is with heavy hearts and an appreciation of a life well lived, that the family of Joseph Haggerty, loving husband of the late Joan (Young) Haggerty, announces his passing which occurred on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at his residence peacefully with loved ones. Born on May 6, 1940 in Haggerty’s Cove, NB, Joe was a son to the late Ray and Amy (Justason) Haggerty. Joe wore many hats, he was a carpenter by trade, steward on the Irvingdale Tanker, school bus driver and a proud member of Local 1386 for 40 years. 25 of those years were spent as a Superintendent with Marque Construction for which he took great pride in. He grew up as a fisherman and seined the weirs from Martin Head to Maine. Joe loved his dear wife Joan with everything he had. He loved the Capt’, playing his Gibson guitar, the outdoors, and cooking, which his family is thankful for because it was a skill he mastered. Joe’s house was a revolving door, his friends and family were always stopping by and you could often hear Joe say "you’re as welcome as the flowers in May". Joe was a simple and true man, loyal and trusting, a man of few words who will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Joe will be fondly remembered by his children: Robert (Gabby) Hodgson, Lloyd (Martha) Halpin, Peter (Amy) Halpin, Robbie (Laura) Halpin, Jacqueline Halpin and Angela Haggerty, his 13 grandchildren: Michael, Brittany, Stephen, Rachel, Kim, Kelly, Andrea, Kyle, Colbie, Lindsay, Matthew, Dale and Lauren, great grandchildren, Callie, Xavier, Audry, Jaxson, Kade, Haley, Jacob and Ella; brother, Eddy (Marie) Haggerty, along with several nieces, nephews and members of his extended family. He and Joan were honourary parents and grandparents to many, "you know who you are". Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his wife, Joan, sister Marlene (Haggerty) Richardson and grandson Gregory. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) where family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Memorial Service will take place on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 10:00 am from Brenan’s Chapel with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Joe’s family would like to extend a special thanks of appreciation to all of the Extra Mural nurses, especially Linda. No amount of words and thank you’s could ever measure the gratitude for the love and care you gave to Joe. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice and online condolences can be placed at www.BrenansFH.com
