Obituary of Arthur Ellis Cunningham

While we celebrate a life well lived, we grieve for the passing of Art Cunningham, a beloved husband, father and grandfather. After a short time at the SJRH, he slipped peacefully away to his home in Glory. Art loved his family dearly and was blessed with many good years with his wife of 62 years, Mary (Wellwood) Cunningham, his daughter Ruth (Cunningham) Shaw, son-in-law Bob Shaw and granddaughter Erin (Shaw) Duket (husband Cody Duket). After 40 years of dental practice, many of which were with his clinic partner Dr. Richard Gregg, Art started a well-earned retirement. His retirement years were spent fishing the Miramichi with his dear friend Richard Gregg, his beloved son-in-law Bob and the extended Shaw clan who treated him like family. He also took great pleasure in spending time at Maces Bay where he enjoyed scuba diving, hikes along the coastline and lobster suppers. The Brethren Meeting Room on Landsdowne Ave. was a big part of Art’s life. His parents (predeceased: Arthur Nesbitt Cunningham and Lois Evelyn (Ellis) Cunningham) attended the church when it was located on Germain Street in Saint John. Art was a faithful attendee and volunteer then and when the church moved to its current location. His wife, daughter and son-in law attend RiverCross Church on Forbes Drive and Art joined them there for special services such as Christmas Eve.
