Obituary of Diana Mae Young

Diana Mae Young passed away unexpectedly Thursday, November 30, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Hospital due to complications from pneumonia. Diana grew up in Sarnia, Ontario where she ultimately graduated from Teachers’ College and met her future husband Peter (Tom) Young. Diana and Tom were married in March of 1968 and relocated to Saint John in the early 1970s to raise their family. Over the next 40 years Diana touched the lives of many people through her work in early childhood education. She worked as a preschool teacher and also ran a daycare for a number of years before returning to school to receive her Bachelor of Education. Diana taught kindergarten for many years at Kennebecasis Park Elementary School and eventually retired in 2010. Following her retirement, Diana and Tom relocated to St. John’s, NL to spend more time with their 4 grandchildren. She only recently returned to Saint John following her husband Tom’s passing in March after 49 years together. Left with nothing but fond memories are children Meaghan (Barry Lake), Lindsay and Tyler; and adoring grandchildren Maren, Jack, William and Callum Lake. Also survived by brother John, sisters-in-law Kathy Craig and Wendy Fairfield, nieces, nephews, and other extended family members, all of whom she loved dearly. Special thank you to the many doctors, nurses and other specialists who were with Diana during her stay at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Parkinson Canada, the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, or the Canadian Cancer Society
