Obituary of Joanne Shirley Morrison

We are sad to announce the passing on February 5th, of long-time Saint John business woman and our mother, Joanne Shirley (Everett) Morrison. A daughter of the late Esther and Barney Everett, she is survived by her loving children Mark (Cathy), Debra, Nancy (Peter), and Robin (James); sister Martha Dantowitz; her beloved grandchildren, Joshua and Sarah Morrison, Michaela and Ethan Title, Jennifer and Alex Claus; her cousins and niece and nephews. A graduate of the Saint John High School class of 1949, she then attended Dalhousie University and graduated from Boston University with a degree in Business Administration. A successful single, working mother before it was commonplace, she started the Morrison Art Gallery where she promoted Atlantic Canadian artists. Marketing manager at Calps and marketing director for Market Square followed, but wanting to be her own boss, she started Morrison Marketing in 1987, retiring only when ill health slowed her down at the age of 80. She was a long-time member of the Shaari Zedek Synagogue and a life-time member of Haddassah-Wizo. A prolific reader, she also enjoyed curling and was a dedicated Mah Jongg player with her devoted friends Janet, Linda and Susan. Thank you to her longtime caregivers Connie Bustin and Kathryn Yeomans and to the staff of Shannex Parkland Embassy Hall, her home for the last 2 years. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). Funeral service at Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel, onTuesday Feb 7th at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lung Associations of NB or NS or charity of your choice in her memory would be greatly appreciated. Online condolences and memories of Joanne may be shared with the family at www.BrenansFH.com. Shiva/visitation at 24 Country Crescent, Quispamsis on Feb 7th and 8th, from 6-8 p.m.
