Obituary of Christina Jones

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Christina Jones, loving wife of 46 years to Louis J. Jones, announces her passing, which occurred on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Glasgow, Scotland on March 1, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Patrick and Christine (Gilligan) McCarthy. The most important thing in Christina’s life was her family for whom she was a source of great love and support. Her career as a school teacher began in Glasgow, and continued in Toronto, where she moved in 1968 and met Louis in 1970. She loved to learn, and went back to university in Louis’ home province of PEI, where the family lived for many years. She also taught here in Saint John. A woman of deep faith, Christina attended both St. Joachim’s and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, and was a member of the CWL. In addition to her husband, Louis, Christina will be missed by her children: Rachel Jones, Anna Jones, Paula Jones and Brendan Jones; her precious grandchildren, Aidan Holden-Jones, Kieran Jones and Dane Guitard; her siblings, Sister Mary McCarthy, Hannah McCarthy, Elizabeth McCarthy and Joseph McCarthy (Mary); as well as several nieces and nephews and all those whose lives she touched. Christina was predeceased by her parents, and a brother John McCarthy. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visitation on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 from 6-8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 91 Waterloo St. Saint John, on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 12:10 pm. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Kidney Foundation.
