Obituary of Louis Samuel Cameron

The death of Louis Samuel Cameron of Saint John, husband of the late Dorothy Joan (Baker) Cameron occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday July 20, 2005 after a lengthy illness. Born in Saint John, NB, he was a son of the late Samuel and Helen (Grass) Cameron. Lou was a member of the Musicians Union and in previous years had formed his own band known as the Western Express with Big John Little. Lou was very proud of his band and the fact that on many occasions he had the privilege of playing with Ned Landry. At a young age, Louis was a member of the Four Leaf Clover Speed skating Club of Saint John and he held the title of Junior Boys Speed skating Champion of New England. As well he took part in various competitions. Lou was known to have trained many hours at Lily Lake along side of another well known North Ender Johnny Walsh. Although in recent years, Louis was affiliated with St. Peter's Church, he attended at. Luke's Anglican Church and was a member of the Boys Church Choir. Even at an early age, Lou was fond of music and played many instruments. Louis served with the military, the Royal Canadian Engineers and was stationed in Chilliwack BC, and Petawa, ON. He is a forty-nine year member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #69. Louis is survived by his sons: Samuel and Donald of Saint John, Stephen (Christina) of Ontario, his daughter; Debbie of Ontario, two sisters: Jean Dean and Mary Dalling (Ron Stewart) of Saint John, ten grandchildren: Stephanie, Michael, Shawn, Melanie, Devin, Steven, and Jacqueline Cameron, Jason, James and Crissy Ferris, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Lou was predeceased by his son, Murray “Cheezie”. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, (506-634-7424) with visiting on Thursday and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service will be held on Friday at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Funeral Service will be held at Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, July 23, 2005 at 2:15 pm. Interment to take place in Greenwood Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.
