Obituary of Edward Gordon Walker

With great sadness, the family of Edward Gordon Walker announce his passing in his 91st year, which occurred peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at the Loch Lomond Villa. He has been reunited with the love of his life, his beautiful wife Phyllis, who predeceased him in March 2012. They had shared a thoughtful and loving marriage that lasted for 63 years and he missed her very much. Ed was born and raised in Saint John to the late Violet (Hanson) and Percy Walker. By the tender age of four, he had lost both his parents and was raised by John and Mabel Walker, and as a brother to Versa, Willis, Loretta, Evelyn, Lois, Douglas, Arnold, June, and Hazen. Ed started his working career as a taxi driver in the city and had many tales to tell of some of his more notable taxi fares. In 1963, he moved his young family to Campbellton to co-own Northern Tire Service with his brother-in-law, Ron. With hard work and determination, they turned it into a successful business. While living in Campbellton, Ed enjoyed many good times at the cottage, snowmobiling, canoeing, fishing, and parties at the hunting camp. In the early 1980’s Ed and Phil returned to their beloved Saint John where he owned a Bowes franchise for a number of years before his semi-retirement. He then worked as a Commissionaire for several years before fully retiring in his early seventies. Ed was liked by everyone who met him and will be remembered as a kind and gentle man who never had a mean word to say about anyone. His sense of humour and soft life lessons will be forever remembered by his children. He was a treasured husband and father and loved beyond measure by his four children: Kathy (Michel), Eddy, Lynn (Marc) and Jamie (Louise). He is also survived by seven precious grandchildren: Holly, Perry, Corey, Troy, Adam (Kaysie), Alex and Caitlin. He also had the pleasure of welcoming his first great-grandchildren: Shayne and Gage. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506) 634-7424, with visitation on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 from 7 to 9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at 2 pm from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation starting at 1 pm. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to Parkinson Canada or The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada (Atlantic) would be appreciated by the family.
