Obituary of Robert Irvine MacDaid
The death of Robert MacDaid occurred Saturday, December 25, 2004 at the Ridgewood Veterans Wing, formerly of 35 Margaret Court, Saint John North. Born in Saint John, NB on September 16, 1908, Robert was the husband of the late Maude Elizabeth (MacPherson) MacDaid, and son of the late Henry and Letitia (MacMillan) MacDaid. He served his country in World War II from 1939 ? 1945 in the R.C.N.V.R., aboard the H.M.C.S. Nabob, in the North Atlantic as a Leading Seaman. Robert was a member of the R.C.L. (Portland Branch), Main Brace Club, and Portland United Church. Following the war he became an electrician and belonged to the I.B.E.W. local 502. He will be missed dearly by the Girls at Sobey's (North End). Robert is survived by two daughters Frances Meehan of Saint John, NB and Marjorie (Marvin) Schneider of Calgary, AB.; one son Stephen (Cheryl) MacDaid of Saint John, NB; five grandchildren Kimberly Meehan, Jason and Scott Schneider, and James and Katie MacDaid; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents he is predeceased by five brothers James, Harry, George, Ralph, and Murray MacDaid. Robert was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home 111 Paradise Row Saint John, NB 634-7424 with visitation on Tuesday 7-9 pm and Wednesday 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A Royal Canadian Legion Service will be held at 7 pm on Wednesday during visitation. The funeral service will be held Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, December 30, 2004 at 2:15 pm. Interment will be in St. Stephen's United Church Cemetery, Molus River, Kent County, NB in the spring. For those who wish donations may be to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation and St. Stephen's United Church, Molus River, Kent County.
