Obituary of Marion Alice Cassidy
The death of Mrs. Marion Alice (Harrison) Cassidy, wife of Russell D. Cassidy of Saint John, NB, occurred at the Campobello Lodge Nursing Home in Welshpool, NB on July 12, 2004, aged eighty-seven years. She was born June 21, 1917 a daughter of the late Leonard Jarvis Harrison and Ida M. (McGerighal) Harrison. She was a graduate of the Provincial Normal School and was a primary grade teacher at the former King George School in Saint John, where her classes enjoyed “Miss Harrison's” excellent teaching and exhibited the high standards of behaviour that she expected of them. She was proud of their many accomplishments achieved in their adult lives. Mrs. Cassidy was a long time member of St. Luke's Anglican Church and with the late Virginia Miller made many of the Church hangings used today. She was a member of the Chancel Guild and one of the originators of the Young Women's Guild, and more recently was a member of the A.C.W. She was a member of the Sir Douglas Hazen Chapter of the I.O.D.E. and the Red Cross Corps during World War II. She was a member of the NB Historical Society and took a special interest in Loyalist House, the home of her great-grandmother, Julia Merritt, daughter of David Merritt. Researching family history was a special hobby. Mrs. Cassidy is survived by her husband; two daughters, Susan F. Lockhart (Dr. Bruce) of Bath, NB and Elsbeth L. Cassidy (Dr. Garth K. Lepine) of North Sydney, NS; one son, Leonard H. Cassidy (Veronica) of Saint John; eight grandchildren, Ann, Kathryn, Louise and Stuart Lockhart, Sarah Lepine, Rosalie, Emily and Harrison Cassidy; and one sister, Mrs. John C. Corbett (Frances). Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held from St. Luke's Church, 369 Main Street, Saint John on Thursday, July 15, 2004 at 11 am. Interment will follow in Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
