Obituary of George Flogeras

Affectionately known as “Papa George”, the death of George Flogeras, of Loch Lomond Road, husband of Metaxia Flogeras, occurred on Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at the Saint John Regional Hospital at the age of 90 years. Born in Patras, Greece, he was the son of the late Demetrius and Sofia (Mamasis) Flogeras. He co-owned and operated the Mediterranean Restaurant for many years. He was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church. Papa George is survived by four sons: Jim (Rebecca) of Rothesay, Paul (Elizabeth) of Quispamsis, Bill of Rothesay and Peter (Pitsa) of Patras, Greece; four daughters: Voula (Theodore) Likourgiotis, Sofia Flogeras, both of Saint John, Helen (John) Messerlian and Maria (Elie) Elmajian, both of Rothesay; grandchildren: John (Marlene), Chris (Andrea), Yorgo (Wenke) Likourgiotis, Christina, Jenna and Michael Flogeras, Natalia and Emmanuel Elmajian, Carmen (Daniel), Lara (Michael) and Sergio (Tina) Messerlian, Stephen (Luisa), David and Jennifer Flogeras, Paul (Kimberly) and Metaxia Flogeras, George and Dimitri Flogeras; five great-grandchildren: Alex, Theo, Andre, Marie-Michelle and Eva; several nieces and nephew Paul (Debbie) Daeres and family. Besides his parents he was predeceased by three sisters and one brother. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424) with visiting on Wednesday, October 20, 2004 from 7-9 pm and Thursday, October 21, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday, October 22, 2004 from St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church at 10:30 am. Interment will be held in Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation.
