Obituary of Gordon Ronald Cobham

A sparkling star in the universe went out when Gordon Ronald Cobham, age 57 passed away on Nov.25, 2004 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, he was the son of Molly Jean Cobham (nee Cooke) who predeceased him and Gordon Douglas Cobham of Kennebecasis Park. He is also survived by his sisters Sherie Angevine of Calgary, AB, Bonnie Cameron (Bill) of Halifax, NS and Wendy Miller (Dennis) of St. Albert, AB as well as nieces Jill, Lauri and Elizabeth, nephews Derek, Greg, John and Brandon, grand-nephew Will and grand-nieces Ela and Kennedy. Gordie was a loving father-figure to Geoffrey Hamilton and Cynthia Hamilton-Gray. He leaves behind many close friends who are saddened to say good-bye to a great buddy. Gordie was a warm hearted, witty person who was full of charm and had the ability to light up a room with his presence. He had three minor faults for which he was also loved dearly: impatience, disorganization and messiness. Gordie was a graduate of Kings College School, Windsor, NS and attended the University of New Brunswick. He was a member of the Royal Kennebecasis Yacht Club, the Masonic Fraternity ? The New Brunswick Lodge No.22, the Saint John Horsemen's Association and the St. Patrick's Society. He was the owner of T. Donovan & Son Ltd. for more than 30 years. Gordie loved sailing and partying on the Saint John River. He was happiest when he was at the wheel, the wind in the sail, friends at his side and a drink in his hand. He had a keen interest in duplicate bridge and had participated in a number of international tournaments. In recent years he was a horse owner and a supporter of sulky racing. Gordie had a love and compassion for all animals and was devastated by the recent loss of his dog and companion Jib. Following cremation visiting hours at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 will be Sunday, November 28 from 2 ? 4 P.M. and 7 ? 9 P.M. New Brunswick Masonic Lodge Number 22 F&A.M. will take place Sunday at 7 P.M. Funeral service and reception will be held on Monday, November 29 at 11 A.M. from Portland United Church, 50 Newport Crescent, Saint John. Internment will follow in Fernhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial donations to the Saint John Animal Rescue League or a charity of your choice.
