Obituary of Ismail Mohamed Patel

Ismail Patel passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in South Africa and educated at Aligarh, India and the University of London. He taught at the University of New Brunswick, Saint John Campus for 25 years. He is survived by his loving wife of forty four years, Marie-Christiane, his two daughters, Nathalie (Paul) and Rebecca (Michael) and three grandchildren, Sophia, David and Soraya. He was predeceased by his beloved son, David. Ismail was one of twelve children. He is survived by five sisters; Dr. Hawa Patel and Dr. Hajra Burton, both of Vancouver, BC, Hadija Patel of Johannesburg, Ayesha Patel of Montreal and Julie Patel of Toronto as well as one brother, Dr. Yusef Patel of Edmonton, AB. At Ismail's request, there will be no visitation. A memorial mass will he held at St. Pius X Church, Somerset Street, Saint John on Saturday, July 23, 2005 at 11:00 AM to celebrate his life and for his many friends to say good bye. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Extra Mural of Saint John or Hospice of Saint John would be appreciated.
