Obituary of Helen Joyce Mayes

The death of Helen Joyce (Tapley) Mayes, wife of Harold Mayes, occurred on October 19, 2003, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, in 1924, she was the daughter of the late W. Guy Tapley Sr. and Rowena Stevens Tapley. Besides her parents her older brother William 'Guy' Tapley predeceased her. A sister, Edith Elizabeth “Timmy” Brewer, Cambridge Narrows, NB, is the surviving member of the family. She will be greatly missed by her devoted husband of 35 years, her sister, her special niece, Mrs. Linda Jennex, Ottawa, and her friends. Prior to her marriage, Helen was employed as a secretary with the Censor Board, Province of New Brunswick. She enjoyed good health until recently and her death came as a shock to her family and friends. Helen and Harold traveled extensively in Canada, United States and Overseas. At Helen's request there will be no visiting or funeral service. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row 634-7424, on Wednesday at 1 pm to process to Fernhill Cemetery for graveside prayers at 2 pm officiated by Rev. James Fudge. The pallbearers will be Jack Nielsen, Joe Fuller, Joseph Savoy, William Crowley, Terry Comeau and Jon Dauphinee and the honourary pallbearers will be Gerry Brewer, Claude Cyr, Harold Peddle, Ray Thompson, Ron Hughes, Jim Jennex and Robert Pade. Remembrances made to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated.
