Obituary of Sydney James Caddell
After a year-long courageous battle with lung cancer, Sydney James Caddell (Jim) passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at his home in Rothesay on January 15, 2004. Ann, his loving wife of 52 years, cared for him until the very end. Jim is predeceased by his parents Walter Leslie and Francis Emily (Truss), and his sister Dorothy Todd. Along with his wife Ann (Murphy) Caddell, Jim is survived by a sister, Joan Price of Vancouver, BC, three children, Leslie Ann Ingleton and her husband Peter, Rothesay, NB, Michael James Caddell and his wife Tzigane (Ball), Rothesay, NB, and Peter Anthony Caddell and his wife Kim (McKnight), Halifax, NS, seven grandchildren, Chris, Julie, Andrew, Sarah, Zoe, Rachel, Marley, and one special great grandson, Nicholas. Born March 9, 1930, Jim started his working career with the Canadian National Railway in Moncton, never missing a single day of work in his 38 years with the railway. Jim was a man not accustomed to being idle. Upon taking an early retirement he set to filling his days and the many years that followed, with two hobbies that gave him great pleasure, woodworking and gardening. As a member of Rothesay Riverside Country Club he enjoyed golfing, curling and was always up for a good game of bridge. Every spring for over 25 years Jim looked forward to vacationing with Ann in South Carolina, where they attended the Masters in Augusta, Georgia, USA. Jim was strong yet gentle, always generous, yet asked for nothing, a steadfast friend to whom family meant everything. He will be greatly missed. Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (634-7424) in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held Sunday, 2-4,7-9 PM. Funeral service will take place in St. Paul's Church, Rothesay, NB, on Monday, January 19, 2003 at 11:00 AM. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. The family would also like to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Blagrave for his special house calls and to the Extra-Mural Staff for their ongoing support.
