Obituary of Elizabeth Frances Speight

The death of Elizabeth “Betty” Frances Speight of Loch Lomond Villa, Saint John, NB, wife of the late William Edward Speight, occurred on Monday, January 22, 2007 at her residence. Born in Saint John a daughter of the late Alexander and Eva Swim (Meek) Mason, Betty had been employed for 31 years as a Kindergarten Teacher with the Boys and Girls Club of Saint John. She was a member of the Home League Ladies Group of the Salvation Army, the Senior Citizens Club at the Loch Lomond Villa and the Salvation Army Senior Citizens Club. She had received the Commemorative Medal for the 125 Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada. Betty volunteered for 40 years at the Boys and Girls Club. Survived by her son, David (Marsha) Speight of Sussex, NB; one brother, Robert (Marion) Mason of Saint John East; two grandchildren, Lynn Marie and David John Speight; six great-grandchildren, Madeline, Sheldon, Trai, Alyssa, Tristan and Tasha; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, William Edward Speight in 1990; five brothers, James, William, David, Samuel, Henry and Fred Mason; five sisters, Eva Warner, Agnes Chatterton, Eleanor Secord, Dorothy Sprague and Margaret Nodwell. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at 1 pm. Interment will be in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Remembrances may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Saint John or the Salvation Army.
