Obituary of Ronald B. Janes

Ronald B. Janes of Saint John, husband of the late Marjorie (Black) Janes, passed away peacefully at the Ridgewood Veteran’s Centre on Wednesday, March 18, 2009. Born at Saint John on August 22, 1923, he was a son of the late George and Evelyn (Pilgrim) Janes. Ron worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia for more than thirty years. A Veteran of World War II, he served overseas in the army. He was a long time member of St. Mary’s Band, and the Royal Canadian Artillery 3rd Field Regiment The Loyal Company. Ron is survived by three daughters, Helen Whitenect (Rennie) of Quispamsis, Sandra Gallant (Gary) of Gorham’s Bluff, and Brenda Forret (Dannie) of Quispamsis; four grandchildren, Jaime, Christopher, Nicholas, and Gregory; five great grandchildren, Michaela, Emma, Bailey, Jayden, and Myah; three brothers, Stanley of Saint John, Clarence (June) of Toronto, and Carson (Ida) also of Toronto; sisters-in-law Eleanor Janes, Barbara Janes, and Margaret Durst; several nieces and nephews, and Yvonne. In addition to his wife, Ron was predeceased by brothers Dick, Harold, and George; and by sisters Isabel, Winnifred, Ethel, Audrey, Susan, Florence, and Doris. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Saturday from 7-9 PM and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM from Brenan’s Chapel. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to Ridgewood Veteran’s Centre or any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. A Tribute to a Veteran Service will be held on Sunday at 7 PM from the funeral home.
