Obituary of Douglas Weir Bettle

Bettle, Douglas Weir - Surrounded by his family, the death of Douglas Weir Bettle, age 77, loving husband to Evelyn (Lynn) (Davies) occurred on Thursday, March 26th, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, January 6th, 1932, the son of the late Judson Weir and Rose Mae (Stafford) Bettle, he served with the Canadian Army Active Force (Nato) from 1950-1953 in Canada and Continental Europe. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Dragoons Association, Life Member of the 26th Battalion Overseas Club, member of the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 58), former member of the Fort Chambly Lodge #132 GRQ A.F.&A.M. and current member of the Corinthian Lodge #13 GLNB F&A.M. as well as the Luxor Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. Employed for 36 years in various management positions within the Steamship Industry in Montreal, Halifax and Saint John, Doug retired due to illness as Manager of the Maritime Employers Association in Saint John. Apart from his wife, he is survived by one son, Daryl Bettle (Denise) of Lakeside, NB., 2 daughters, Roberta Collomb (Yves) of Hampton NB. and Susan Brown (John) of West Kelowna, BC.; 7 grandchildren, Judson Bettle (Laura), Jacqueline, Carole and Robert Collomb, John, Lynn and Stephen Brown; one great grandchild Sean Bettle; sister Dorothy McConnachie of Cambridge Narrows, NB.; several nieces and nephews, cousins and 1 special Aunt, Lulu Ganong of Bloomfield, NB. Predeceased by 3 brothers Daryl, Kenneth and Charles Bettle, 2 sisters Barb Lorenzi and Ruth Bettle in infancy. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Monday, March 30, 2009 at 11:30 am. Interment will take place in Titus Hill Cemetery, Titusville, NB.
