Obituary of Eric Lloyd Garland

Garland, Eric Lloyd … It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Eric Lloyd Garland of Saint John, NB, husband of the late Jean Lillian (Flewelling) Garland, on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at the Ridgewood Veterans Wing, Saint John. Born in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland on October 11, 1919, he was a son of the late Robert and Annie (Levesque) Garland. As a Veteran of W.W. II, he had served with the Royal Canadian Navy on various ships including the Guelph, the Kitchener and the Fredericton. Following the war he was employed in sales with the National Drug Co and Cheseborough … Ponds. Eric was a lifetime member of the Shriners, Thistle St. Andrew’s Curling Club, the Royal Canadian Legion and the UCT. He is survived by a son, Dr. Brian (Dianne) Garland of Quispamsis, NB; five grandchildren, Michael Garland of Vancouver, BC, David Garland of Saint John, Dr. Jennifer O’Dea (Frank) of St. John’s, NL, Dr. Jocelyn Garland (Jason) of Kingston, ON and Jillian Garland (Roger) of Kelowna, BC. Besides his wife Jean Lillian who passed away on January 8, 1989, he was predeceased by a son, Paul in November 2008. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424. Cremation has taken place. In accordance with Eric’s wishes there will not be any visitation at the funeral home. Eric’s family will hold a Memorial Service in the summer at a date yet to be chosen.
