Obituary of Donald Claudius Huestis

Donald Claudius Huestis of Saint John, husband of Norma (Wood) Huestis, passed away on Monday, November 16, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Saint John on February 6, 1925, he was a son of the late Murray and Edna (Donnley) Huestis. Donald was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force. After the war, he continued to serve in the Armed Forces for 24 years in many cities across Canada. An avid gardener, Donald won many First Place awards at the Exhibition for his potatoes and squash, among other vegetables. Donald also enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting. In addition to his wife of 63 years, Donald is survived by two sons, Vincent Huestis (Marjorie) of Ontario and Richard Huestis (Cheryl) of Wasaga Beach; a daughter, Myrna Dykeman (Bryan) of Chipman; a brother, Earl Huestis (Opal) of Prince Edward Island; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Donald was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Casey; an infant son, Martin; and a great grandson, Alexander. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Friday, November 20, 2009 from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service. The funeral service will be held at Brenan’s Chapel on Friday at 3:30 PM. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances to any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
