Obituary of Joseph A. Slemin

The death of Joseph Allister Slemin of Saint John, NB, occurred peacefully at his residence on Saturday, February 13, 2010. Joseph is survived by his loving wife and high school sweetheart, June; his son, Bruce (Sally) and daughters, Charby and Jan, and his adored grandchildren, Jarrid, Rebekah, Jim, Jillian and Emily. Born in St. Catharines, ON, in 1923, Joe was a star high school athlete. He served in the navy in WWII aboard the frigate, Wentworth. He finished his education at the University of Toronto where he received his Engineering degree. Joe established, NB Sales & Services and was well known and respected in the business community. He was a long time member of the Union Club, Byng Boys and a founding member of the New Brunswick Chapter of ASHRAE. Over the years he was an active member of many organizations and clubs including; the Art App. Association (Navy), Westfield Gold and Country Club, Riverside Golf and Country Club, Carleton Curling Club, St Andrews Curling Club, Tobique Fishing and Hunting Club, YMCA Health Club, Noocyt Investment Club, NBXA, Royal Kennebecasis Yacht Club, Saint John Executive Association and the Lancaster Golden Service Club. He was presented the Life Membership of the Association of Professional Engineers of the Province of New Brunswick. Joe was an enthusiastic traveler and an accomplished wood carver. One of his greatest joys was years spent hunting and fishing along the shore of the Tobique at his cottage. He enjoyed people and people enjoyed him for his sense of humor and ability to come up with the perfect droll response. Joe was a kind friend who often supported others without recognition. He will be remembered lovingly by his family and we will miss him. At the family request there will be no visitation or funeral service. Arrangements under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, 634-7424. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later time. For those who wish, donations in memory of Joe can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
