Obituary of Eileen Anne Farrell

Eileen Anne Farrell died on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, joining her husband Harry, who died in 1983, thus ending a long and fruitful life. Her two daughters, Elizabeth Yoell (Dr. Barry Yoell) of Wolfville, Nova Scotia, and Barbara Anderson (Douglas Anderson) of Saint John presented her with six grandchildren, Heather Yoell (Dr. Jianping Xu) of Dundas, ON, Dr. Christopher Yoell of New Minas, NS, Jeffrey Yoell of Victoria, BC, Catherine Yoell (Kevin Harrison) of North Vancouver, BC, Peter Anderson (Paula Miller) of Halifax, NS, and Mark Anderson (Lauren) of Rothesay, and twelve great grandchildren, Rui, Yinze, Madeline, Claudia, Louise, Shanze, Gregor, Liam, Thomas, Sebastian, Reese, and Hunter. Eileen was born in 1910 at Shawville, Quebec, the daughter of Stanley and Mabel (Maitland) Langford. Her siblings Opal, Iva, Cressel, and Seldon predeceased her. She moved to Ottawa at age 16, training to be and working as a secretary. In 1937 she married, and with her banker husband moved many times around eastern Canada before settling in Saint John in 1954. She and Harry established a large circle of friends in New Brunswick and were popular members of the Church of the Good Shepherd, the Thistle St. Andrew Curling Club and Westfield Golf Club, holding many executive positions in these and other organizations. She was a longtime member of the Brunswick chapter IODE, enjoyed playing bridge, keeping up with current events and watching curling and golf, as well as the Lawrence Welk Show on television. One of her passions was knitting hats for newborn babies born in the Regional Hospital. She produced thousands of these over the years, and had she been able, would have continued knitting until the end. Unfortunately, two serious strokes made this and independent living impossible, and she spent the last months of her life in the Church of St. John and St Stephen Nursing Home. The family thanks Eileen’s faithful friend, Rita O’Donnell, for her loving care, both in her home and at the nursing home. We would also like to thank nurses Kim Brown and Kim Hebert and the staff of the St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Friday, November 20, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:30 AM from the Church of the Good Shepherd, Manawagonish Road, Saint John West. Interment will take place at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to the Church of the Good Shepherd or the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home would be appreciated by the family.
