Obituary of Donald Frederick Given

The passing of Don Given, husband of Patricia “Pat” (Garnett) Given, occurred on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 28, 1933 at Saint John to the late Walter and Beatrice (Gardner) Given. Don worked for Commercial Union Insurance as a claims examiner for many years until his retirement in 1988. He was a loving and supportive husband and father, always was happy and loved a good joke. In his spare time, Don was an avid card and bingo player. Besides his wife Pat, Don is survived by three sons: Bruce and David Given both of Saint John and Raymond Garnett (Debbie) of Saint John; sister Audrey Norris of Hamilton, ON; granddaughter, Angela Garnett; great grandson, Kamryn and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; five brothers: William, Walter, Robert, Jack and David Given; three sisters: Elsie Green, Winnifred Dobbin and Nancy Bojin and great grandson, Ashton John. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will held from Brenan’s Chapel on Friday, October 16, 2009 at 11:30 am. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society, NB Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice.
