Obituary of Josephine Helena McCormick

The death of Josephine Helena McCormick of Saint John, NB, wife of the late Arthur McCormick, occurred peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, December 16, 2009. Born in Saint John on December 12, 1921, she was the youngest child of the late Thomas A. and Rosella (York) Barrett. Josephine had been a teacher at many local schools and retired after twenty-five years of service. Art and Jo were married in Stella Maris Church on July 4, 1949 and celebrated 58 years of marriage. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining, sewing and her Belleisle garden. Jo was a member of Holy Trinity Church C.W.L for over 48 years. She was devoted to her family, making sure “her girls” had a summer place every year from Brown’s Flat, Oak Point, Pamdenac, Lower Kars and finally Belleisle Bay. For twenty years, Jo and Art spent their retirement in Vacation Village, Largo, Florida and Belleisle. She is survived by her three daughters, Nancy (Wayne) Vallis of Rothesay, NB, Jo-Ann (David) Boyle and Mary (Paul) McDade, both of Saint John; five grandchildren: Alison and Leah Vallis, Rosalind, Peter and Kevin McDade: several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Jo was predeceased by a brother, James Barrett and his twin sister Margaret Fryer, a sister Audrey McIntyre and a nephew Terry Alderman. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm . Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Stella Maris Church, Bayside Drive on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 10:00 am. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
