Obituary of Carl Leslie Haslett

Surrounded by his family Carl Leslie Haslett, of Saint John, husband of Lorraine (Craig) on November 3rd in Saint John. Much loved father of Shelly Fowlie (Darell) and Brenda Breen (Peter), cherished grandfather of Madison, Mallory and Aleah Breen and beloved brother of Ernie, Ken (Trudi) and predeceased siblings Dorothy (Silliphant) and Doug. We remember most his sense of humour, loyalty to family and friends and need to be constantly at work whether it be doing something around the house or a puzzle. He loved time with family and always maintained a twinkle in his eye, easy laugh and loving manner. Carl grew up in the North End of Saint John, third son of Ernest and Mabel Haslett. In 1951 he joined the team at NB Publishing and enjoyed many years in the pressroom until his retirement in 1991. He was also a member of the Press Club for several years. An avid bowler he played for several teams throughout the years and was most proud of his best score of 389. He loved the outdoors and looked forward each year to time spent with friends at the hunting and fishing camp. Friends were important to him and during the summer months spent at Hardings Point he enjoyed the company of a great group of friends. He was always interested in a game of horseshoes and rarely passed on the opportunity to build a deck. Our most sincere thanks to Dr. Pamela Jarrett and the team at St. Josephs CAM unit, who provided care and support for the entire family in the early stages of his illness. We are also so grateful for the wonderful team of caring professionals at Turnbull Nursing home. We will never forget the care and compassion provided over the past few years and understanding and support in helping him, and us. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, with visiting on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 5th, 2009 at 11:00 AM from Brenan’s Chapel. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances to the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation (CAM Unit), Parkinson’s Society of Canada, Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
