Obituary of George N. Oland

The passing of George Oland, husband of Rose (Olsen) (Ford) Oland, occurred on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at the Oromocto Public Hospital. He was born on February 2, 1944 in Saint John to the late George and Helen (Napier) Oland. Chuck worked maintenance for 30 years at Moosehead Breweries. He was the past second vice president of Lancaster Legion Branch #69 where he was the chairman of the wheelchair van committee and a member of the Fundy Trail Riders Association in Brown’s Flat. Chuck was an avid outdoorsman and liked activities such as boating, hunting, fishing and gardening. He also had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed playing and receiving practical jokes. Besides his wife Rose of 25 years, George is survived by five step children: Raynes Taylor (Ann), of Saint John, Deborah Stubbs (Phillip) of Ketepec, Tammy Nicole of Grand Bay Westfield, Tracey Connors (Jim) of South Bay and Chris Ford of BC and one half sister Mary Lou Marsh of ON; several grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Chuck will be sadly missed by his friends: Paul and Gizelle Bernier and Ronnie Vautour. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Susan Campbell. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visitation on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 1:00 pm. A private family interment will take place in Brown’s Flat Baptist Cemetery. For those who wish rememberances may be made to Romero House, Brown’s Flat Baptist Cemetery Fund or the charity of the donor’s choice.
