Obituary of Jacques Joseph Paulin

PAULIN, JACQUES JOSEPH - The sudden passing of Jacques Joseph Paulin occurred on March 5th, 2010, in Bangkok, Thailand. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick on December 6th, 1949, Jacques was the son of Patricia (chiasson) and the late Elzear (Joe) Paulin. Besides his mother, Jacques is survived by three brothers Gaston (Dona) of Wildwood, Georgia, Rene (Gao), United Arab Emerites, Tim (Martha) of Rothesay, five sisters, Paulette Paulin, Toronto, Cathy Paulin, Saint John, Andrea (Larry) Brooks, Quispamsis, Lorraine Paulin, Saint John and Tina (Phil) Blackmore, Quispamsis. He is also survived by his 3 nieces, Lise, Michelle and Claire and four nephews, Donny, Jamie, Michael and Dylan, as well as an uncle, several aunts and cousins. Jacques was a 1967 graduate of St. Malachy’s High School. He attended St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, N.S. and furthered his studies at the University of Alberta where he graduated with a degree in Dance and Fine Arts. In 2009 he received his Masters of Education Degree from the University of New Brunswick. Jacques greatest love was the theatre. Over the years he participated in several productions in Canada, the U.S. and Thailand. During one of his return visits to Saint John he was a member of the cast of Amadeus. He was a member of ACTRA . In the mid-seventies Jacques left Canada to follow his dream to see the world. He travelled to many interesting and exotic places and for the greater part of the past thirty years he resided in Bangkok. While in Thailand he worked as a lecturer at Thammasart University teaching writing and public speaking as well as working for the Thai Vocational Institute as a teacher and a writer of textbooks for teaching English. He also worked for Radio Thailand and at the time of his death he was a teacher of English at Mahidol University. Jacques was a great storyteller and those who knew him will cherish the wonderful stories he shared with family and friends. A Buddhist ceremony celebrating his life was held in Bangkok attended by his brother Rene, cousin Chris Chiasson of Calgary and his many friends and colleagues. To fulfill Jacques’ wishes a quantum of his ashes were released at sunset in the waters of his beloved Phuket, Thailand. There will be visitation on Thursday, March 25th from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Pius X Church, Somerset Street, on Friday, March 26th at 11:00 am with Rev. Doug McNeill officiating. Internment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery following a reception to be held in the church basement.
