Obituary of Gerald Hartley McCoy

Peacefully, after a brief illness, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Gerald (Gerry) Hartley McCoy (Papa), husband of the late Ida G. (Wilcox) McCoy, passed away on Wednesday, 16 December, 2009 at the age of 74 years. He is survived by five sons; Wayne, Kevin (Myrna), Randy (Betty-Anne), Mark (Carri) and Darren (Valerie); thirteen grandchildren; Gerald (Samantha), Michael (Crystal), Mark T., William, Hailey, Ryan, Ashley, Steven, Mark K., Riley, Kelsey (Ryan), Kirstie and Richard; five great-grandchildren; his mother, Laura (Gibbons) (McCoy) Saunders; three brothers; Lawrence (Emily), Robert (Nancy), and Carleton (Marcia); three sisters; Sandra, Joan (late Roy), and Donna (Neil); several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his father, L. Edgar McCoy, in 1971. Born in Saint John, NB, he was self-employed in the trucking industry for many years. A former member of the Saint John Police Force, he was also employed as a driver for Eastern Bakeries and General Bakeries, as well as a contract driver for the Telegraph Journal / Evening Times Globe. He had a life-long interest in railways, and loved to play cards and to travel. The family would like to thank the following special people who contributed so very much: Rev. Blair Ellis; Chris and staff at CMB Geriatrics, and the tireless Doctors, Nurses and Staff at the Saint John Regional Hospital, for their compassionate care. There will be no visiting, by request. Graveside service will be held at Ocean View Memorial Gardens on Saturday, 19 December, 2009, at 11:00 am. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of donor’s choice.
