Obituary of Gordon Albert Slattery

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gordon Slattery, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Born in Saint John on August 5, 1933, he was a son of the late Percy and Florence (Moore) Slattery. Early in his career, Gordon worked as a brakeman for CNR rail; moved to Metro Construction and then he retired from Spectrum Enterprises. He was an avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs. Gordon enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandsons who brought great joy to his life. Gordie summered at his camp at Purdy’s Point and loved to go boating, play cribbage and garden. He was a strong supporter of Tim Horton’s, and will be deeply missed by his "coffee buddies". Gordon is survived by his devoted wife, Helen (Harley) Slattery; daughters: Judy (John Stevens) of Saint John and Shara Brown (Jeff) of Lower Sackville, NS; son, Christopher (Trish) of Saint John; son-in-law and coffee buddy, Stephen Henderson; grandsons: Matthew (Kayla Freeze), Kyle, Daniel and Griffin; great-grandson, Landon; sisters-in-law, Florence Lavine (Frank) and Carol Frank; brother-in-law, David Harley and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Gordon was predeceased by his brothers: Francis, Raymond and Bernard. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. The family would like to give a sincere thank you to the doctors and staff of the CAM Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital who took such good care of Gordon. A special thank you to Vance and Denise for being extra kind to Gordon and his family. God bless you all. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan's Chapel on Monday, September 16, 2013 at 10:00 am. For those who wish remembrances to the Joshua Group, Alzheimer’s Society or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
