Obituary of Beverly Eileen Whelly

Beverly Eileen Whelly of Rothesay, wife of the late Charles Frederic Whelly, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 25, 2013 at her residence. Born in Saint John on December 18, 1929, she was a daughter of the late G. Sherman and Elizabeth Eugenie (Ritchie) Dearborn. Beverly worked for a short time before her marriage, and also had a regional radio show broadcast out of Halifax, "A Half Hour with Beverly". She was on the Board of the Saint John Free Public Library for many years, and was an avid reader. While raising an active family she volunteered for many years with the United Way of Saint John. As an exceptional soprano singer, Bev had a life long passion for music. Bev is survived by her children, Charles "Chip" Whelly (Christine) of Rothesay, D. Kevin Whelly (Bernadette) of Toronto, and Beverly E. "Lee" Whelly of Ottawa; grandchildren Brendan, Grant, David, Keegan, and John; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews, all of whom lovingly referred to her as "Bababy". In addition to her husband, Bev was predeceased by a son, Joe Whelly in 1968. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Monday, October 28, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at 3:30 PM from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the United Way of Saint John would be appreciated by the family.
