Obituary of Dorothy Grace Breen

The death of Dorothy Breen wife of the late Leonard Breen occurred peacefully on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born on August 21, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Alice (Morris) Shiels. Dorothy enjoyed taking care of her family and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a proud North Ender all her life and always enjoyed her daily walks and baking for those she loved. Dorothy was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Dorothy will be missed by her daughter, Evelyn Day of Saint John; grandchildren, Paul Day (Noreen) of Whitby, ON and Tracy Day-Labobe (Michael) of Lennox Island, PEI; great-grandchildren, Emily Day and Brandon Day both of Whitby, ON, Michael Day and Noah Day-Labobe both of Lennox Island, PEI; great-great-granddaughter, Aubree Day of Lennox Island, PEI; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Frankie Day; sister, Ruth Squires (Robert) and brothers, Ronald Shiels (Ann) and Edward Shiels. Dorothy’s family would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire staff of Rocmaura Nursing Home for the excellent care and friendship that was always provided to Dorothy. Also a special thank you to Dr. Kathy Keith, whose care of Dorothy was exceptional. As per Dorothy’s wishes, no visitation or funeral service will take place. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). A sincere thank you to Karen of Brenan’s Funeral Home and staff for their understanding and compassion during such a difficult time. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to St. John the Baptist (Mission Church) and St. Clements Building Fund.
