Obituary of Betty Iva Iola Pendleton

Beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. It is with great love and sorrow that the family announces the passing of Betty Pendleton, loving wife of the late Robert Pendleton, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by her family, on March 6 after a brief illness. She was born on Nov. 12, 1926 in Hampton, N. B., daughter of the late Heber and Catherine (Thorne) Nolan. Betty lived in Saint John most of her life, having moved here when she was 10 years old. She worked for Sobeys Store for many years, and when she retired she enjoyed her time with her grandchildren and going to Deer Island with Bob and her family at the home on the Island. When her great grand-children came along, there were even more family members to enjoy. Her great love of family was evident in the close ties and relationships with her sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews as well as her extraordinary closeness to her immediate family. Betty belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary for 35 years, and she enjoyed going to Bingo on Wednesdays at Branch 69 Legion with her Seniors Club friends. Betty is survived by her two children, Doug (Marilyn) Benjamin and Sandra Hawkins, three brothers Douglas (Montreal), Walter (Saint John), Terry (Barbara) Nolan (Moncton), sister Carol (Edward) MacKay (Amherst), her step-mother Nettie Nolan (Amherst), stepsons John (Kathy) Pendleton (Bridgewater, N.S.) and Allison (Linda) Pendleton (Qualicum Beach, B.C.), four grandchildren Natalie (Clay) Campbell, Doug (Lynn) Benjamin, Mike (Bevin) Benjamin, Natasha Hawkins (and Tim), four great-grand-children Brandon, Brittany, Joey and Emma, as well as numerous step-grandchildren in B.C. , and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Her great love for her first-born granddaughter, Natalie, was evidenced when her voice alone soothed and settled her Nan down during her last days. She also wished to acknowledge her special friends Julia Benjamin and Annie Seymore. She is predeceased by her brothers Lee, Roy, Harold, and Murray, sisters Eva Cross (Saint John) and Phyllis McCaustlin (Newcastle, Ont.) and her first husband Joseph Benjamin and their son (Billy) William. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan's Chapel on Monday, March 10, 2014 at 12:00 noon. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Please place online condolences and remembrances at www.BrenansFH.com
