Obituary of William Reynold Haines

It is with great sadness the family announces the death of William Reynolds Haines, husband of Winnifred (McGrath) Haines on November 7, 2015 at Bobby’s Hospice, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 18, 1945 he was the son of the late Captain Reynolds A. Haines and Frances (Spragg) Haines of Saint John, NB. In his youth Bill played soccer, hockey and developed a lifelong passion for archery. He graduated from Saint John Vocational School in 1963 and was actively involved with the SJVS/HVHS Alumni for many years. Bill was employed with Irving Paper Ltd. After his retirement in 2003 he was able to spend even more time in the outdoors and with his sons and friends at his hunting camp. He truly enjoyed his Thursday coffee nights with his archery buddies. Over the past few years he took up fly tying and spent many hours working on his technique. He especially loved the many large family gatherings. He was a member of the Saint John Fish and Games Association, a firearms instructor for DNR and a master bow hunter instructor for many years. He proudly served as chairman of the Bow hunters Association for five years. In addition to his loving wife and best friend of 49 years, Bill is also survived by his sons, William (Tara) Edward, James (Nancy) and daughter Catherine McCarty (William): eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren; sisters Faye Black (David ) and Holly Haines, sisters- in-law Anna Ellis (Walter) Joyce McGrath and brother- in- law William McGrath (Carole) as well as several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ginette Griffin, Dr. Samantha Gray, Extra Mural nurses and the entire staff of Bobby’s Hospice House for their loving and compassionate care. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424), with visitation on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Paradise Row Chapel on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 2:00 PM. For those who wish, remembrances in memory of Bill may be made to Bobby’s Hospice or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
