Obituary of Charles R. Williston

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Charles Robert Williston "Charley", which occurred on Sunday, May 11th, 2014, at the Loch Lomond Villa surrounded by family. Born in Saint John on December 21, 1934, he was the son of Dick & Tilly. Charley grew up proudly as a Saint John "North Ender" where he spent many hours at the Old Forum, St. Peter’s Ballpark, and the Lord Beaverbrook Rink. He was a devout Catholic and life-long member of St. Peter’s Church. Even through his illness, Charley’s gentle and kind nature shone through every day as he always had a smile and a "how are you doing?" for everyone. Charley was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be sadly missed by all. When Ocean Steel/Strescon was formed in 1955, Charley was one of the original employees at the age of 18. He worked as a draughtsman, and stayed with the company until he retired 47 years later. As all who knew him are aware, Charley was a sports enthusiast. In his earlier years, he excelled at hockey, played softball, boxed and loved to swim. In later years, he bowled, and was an avid spectator at his family’s sporting events. He was a proud supporter of the Saint John Flames and SeaDogs hockey clubs. Charley was a huge fan of the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Blue Jays. He is survived by five children, Cheryl Luck of Saint John; Rick (Sharyl), of Quispamsis; Beth (Brian Martin) of Toronto; Joe of Saint John and Mary Allison (Jon LeBlanc) of Quispamsis; nine grandchildren; Jennifer (Mike) McNulty, Shannon and David Luck, Adam and Dylan Williston, Ryan and Matthew Williston, Will and Claire Martin; two great-grandchildren, Carter and Charley McNulty; a brother, Jack Williston, and two sisters, Peggy Durning and Betty (Joe) Fisher, many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by son, David, his wife, Pat (Debow), his parents, Dick and Tilly Williston, and brother Dick. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m, and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Peter's Church on Thursday, May 15th at 11:00 a.m Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick would be appreciated by the family.
