Obituary of Simone Marie Landry-Gilmore

The family of Simone Marie Landry-Gilmore, wife of Leonard Gilmore, announce her passing, which occurred on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in St. Isidore, NB on September 9, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Alexandra and Francoise (Duclos) Arseneau. Simone was noted for opening the doors to her home welcoming all who came to visit. She prepared many a meal especially for friends of her children. She loved her winter vacations in Florida, meeting other snowbirds from Canada and the USA whom she developed close friendships. She relished the social events and playing bingo. She cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren, making sure that each of them received a quilt. Quilting was something she learned as a young girl when watching the art of quilting that was done by her mother. Making cookies was a favorite talent, making sure she delivered tins of cookies to all her grandchildren. She was proud of the many accomplishments that each of her grandchildren have attained academically. Simone is survived by her husband Leonard; son Allan (Beth) Landry, of Rothesay, NB; daughters Lorraine (Willard) Tutty of Sackville, NS; and Sandra (Thomas) Chesworth, of Saint John, NB; daughter in law, Jamie Landry; sister, Evelyn Stanhope, of Montreal, QC; nine grandchildren, Erika (Jeff) Little, Alana (David) Trujillo, Dr. Bret Landry, Sarah Landry, Jill Landry, Meaghan Chesworth, Christopher Chesworth, Jennifer (Fernando) Apectche, and Karin (Graham) Taylor; and 7 great grandchildren, Emma and Alex Little, Grant, Sienna and Julian Trujillo, Eva Apectche and Kate Taylor. She was predeceased by parents, her first husband Romeo Landry, son Ronald Landry, and 12 siblings. The family would like to acknowledge the exceptional care and kindness given to Simone by the staff of 3B South Coronary Care Unit during her brief illness and her final journey. A special thanks to the nurses of CCU especially Amy and Maureen, and cardiologists, including Dr. Ben Phelan and Dr. Tyler Mullen. Grateful thanks to Father Stan Paulin and Father David Fulton. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visiting on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 31 Gondola Point Rd., Rothesay, on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 11:00 AM. For those who wish, remembrances in memory of Simone may be made to the NB Heart Center or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
