Obituary of John Joseph Montague

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of John Joseph Montague, loving and caring husband of 45 years to Louisa (LeBlanc), on Tuesday, May 5th, 2015 at Bobby’s Hospice. Born on January 9th, 1944 in Saint John, he was the son of the late Edward Gregory and Kathleen (Logue) Montague. In addition to his devoted wife Louisa, John is survived by his beloved only daughter Paulette (Jim) Stoddard. John also leaves his close immediate family, sisters Mary (Mark) McAuliffe, Ann (Ian) Crowley, brothers, James Edward (Judy) Montague, Peter (Val) Montague and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. John was always employed in the pharmaceutical industry having started his early career at National Drug and later as warehouse supervisor at Courtney Drug Wholesale. John would also be fondly remembered for being part of the team at Shoppers Drug Mart, where he retired in 2009. People will lovingly remember John for his enduring friendship, infectious charm and genuine enthusiasm. John was very active in the community throughout his life as a parent coordinator with the Hi-Y, a teen center at St. Patrick’s School, volunteer with the West Side Food Bank, and active contributor and participant in the various card parties and community breakfasts throughout the city. John was a man a strong faith being an usher at the Assumption Church and he received his 4th Degree with the Knights of Columbus, as a member of branch 8094 and then 6770. Friends were so important for John and he cherished the great times spent with his lifelong friends at 7 Mile Lake, Dick English, Kevin Branscombe, and the late Brian English, Derwin Hawkins, Frank McDonald. The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Johnston, the staff at Extra Mural and especially the dedicated staff at Bobby’s Hospice for all their continued care and support. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Friday, May 8th, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 360 Dufferin Row, Saint John on Saturday, May 9th, 2015, at 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Bobby’s Hospice or to Our Lady of the Assumption Church Building Fund.
