Obituary of Richard Gray Likely

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Richard Gray Likely announce his passing which occurred on June 10, 2015 at Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing. Richard was born on May 18, 1920 in Saint John, NB to the late Arthur and Molly (Gray) Likely and was a loving husband to the late Helen (Rising) Likely. Richard enlisted in the army in 1941 and was a Captain in the World War II Artillery, stationed in Italy, North Africa and England. In November 1945, Richard was discharged and began working in the family business, Jos. A. Likely LTD, eventually becoming VP. Richard had many hobbies and interests, enjoying time at the Westfield Golf and Country Club, a member of the Moss Glen Fishing Club and the 70 Plus Ski club. Richard sat on the board at Fernhill Cemetery for many years, was involved with Ducks Unlimited, Saint John Executive Association as well as the Parrtown Club. Richard was passionate about the Village of Westfield and was involved in local politics for many years. Richard will be missed, especially by the surviving members of his family, his children: Janet (Ken) Nichols, Michael Likely (Charlotte Clinch) and Susan (Dr. Jim) West, his grandchildren: Sarah West (Bill Ethier), Heather Klassen (Wes), Kate West, Rachel Hogg (Chris), Carrie Richard (Steve) and Wendy Nichols, his 5 great-grandchildren and his sister-in-law, Barbara Likely. Besides his parents, Richard is predeceased by his wife Helen, Grandson Timothy Likely, daughter-in-law Brenda Likely and his brother Joseph Likely. Richard’s family would like to extend a special "Thank you" to the entire staff of Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing, Liberty Lane and to several caregivers when he was at home over several years. Your kindness will not be forgotten. Resting at Brenans Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) and at the request of Richard, there will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at Westfield United Church on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 11 am. Interment will take place at Fernhill Cemetery.
