Obituary of William Wilson Aves

Aves, William (Bud) - departed this life on December 2, 2015, at Ridgewood Veteran’s Hospital, aged 92 years. He was the beloved husband of Renate (Renée) Aves and father of Thomas Wm. Aves (Christie) of Calgary. He is survived by his wife and son, and one cousin in London. Born in Quebec City in May 1923, he was baptized and confirmed at Quebec’s Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in early 1942 and served at sea and ashore. After graduating from Sir George Williams College in 1946, he attended McGill. He was married in May 1958 in Canada’s oldest church, came to Saint John in January 1960, and retired from Saint John Shipbuilding in 1988. He participated in Anglican Church affairs as Warden, Lay Reader, Choir member, Trustee and served 15 years on the Vestry at St. John’s Stone Church. He was involved with, and a member of: Church Army Associates; Main Brace Naval Association; Royal Canadian Legion BR.58; Community Food Basket; Lancaster Golden Service Club; Masonic Lodge (St. Martin’s No. 30); Hammond River Angling Association; Westfield Golf Club, and Saint John Seafarers Mission. He enjoyed skiing and travel and casting a fly was his fulfillment. Visitation will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, (634-7424) on Sunday December 6, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM with a Masonic Tribute being held at 2:00 PM and a Legion Tribute at 7:00 PM. Funeral service will be held at Trinity Church, 115 Charlotte St., Saint John at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 7, 2015. His burial will take place at Fernhill Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Stone Church Building Fund, Salvation Army, Sea Farers Mission or a charity of donor’s choice. We would like to express our special thanks to the nurses and staff of Ridgewood Veteran’s Hospital.
