Obituary of Mary Jane Nagle

Jane Nagle, wife of the late Michael Thomas Nagle, died Friday, April 10, 2015 at home, surrounded by all of her children. Born September 4, 1934 in Saint John, she was a daughter of the late Geoffrey C.W. and Mildred M. (Lannen) Oland. A graduate of Mount Saint Vincent Academy in 1952, she subsequently graduated from the Saint John School of Nursing in 1985. After many years dedicated to raising her children, her pursuit of a lifelong dream to become a nurse, became a reality. Later in life, graduating with one daughter and being taught by another, she made her own bit of history. For Jane, family was everything; enjoying many summers boating on the Saint John River and cottaging on the Belleisle. Family get togethers were never a small affair, but often happened spontaneously and always ensured lots of good laughs and more than enough food for how ever many showed up. She was an avid golfer, spending her winters in Florida and leaving behind many good friends as she said goodbye for the last time just a year ago. She loved to travel and shared many adventures with her children, particularly the much anticipated annual "Panacea" sister weekend in Ontario. A woman of many talents, she whiled away hours with her love of painting, and puttering in her beautiful gardens. Known for her quick wit, wonderful sense of humour, brutal honesty, love of a good story and the embellishment of same, she oft became just another one of the kids. But at her core she remained ever the strong family matriarch, a wise and all knowing mother. Other than Mike, the love of her life, her children were her life. She was fondly known as "Janie" to her grandchildren, and now she is with "Grampy boy" in heaven. Jane is survived by 6 daughters: Lynn Marie Nagle (Margaret) of Toronto, Terry Ann Nagle of Rothesay, Cynthia Jane Bergeron (Henri) of Rothesay, Mary Suzanne Cole (George) of Rothesay, Lisa Michele McLaughlin (Gary) of Quispamsis, and Megan Louise Quayle (Gordon) of Quispamsis; 3 sons: Mark Oland Nagle (Faith) of Rothesay, Michael Geoffrey Nagle (Pam) of Rothesay, Shaun Thomas Nagle (Leah) of Rothesay; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Benny. Besides her parents and her husband, Jane was predeceased by three daughters: Mary Jane (Kim), Wendy Ann, and Melinda Mary; one sister, E. Ann Flood; and one brother, Geoffrey (Bob) Oland. Although lovingly cared for at home by her children, the family wishes to thank the Kennebecasis Valley Extra Mural team for their caring and support throughout our journey. Also a special thanks to Father Stan Paulin for his much appreciated spiritual care and support of the family. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 from 2 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Rothesay, on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 11 am. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Building Fund or Kennebecasis Valley Extra Mural would be appreciated by the family.
