Obituary of Ruth Doreen Thompson

Ruth Doreen (Laird) Thompson passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, December 20, 2014. Born in Saint John on April 3, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Georgina B. (McFarland) and George H. Laird. She will be missed by her children Toni-Lynn DeHaan (Ronald) and Wayne Thompson (Robyn); daughters by heart, Carol Thompson and Fran (Wayne) Archer; grandchildren Chandra DeHaan (Doug Jamer), Kelly Anne MacLeod (Steve), Christopher (Andrea) Thompson, Jacqueline Thompson, Andrew Thompson (Amanda), Timothy Thompson (Travis) and Nicholas Thompson; great grandchildren Wylden Thompson, Jackson Thompson and Zoey Anne Jamer; step grandchildren Jonathan and Adam LeBlanc; step great grandchildren, Wesley and Ella as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her companion Ronald Cameron in 1974; sisters and their spouses, Mary Melanson (George), Edna Sullivan (Georges), Effie Martin (Thomas), Eileen Sullivan (Kenneth), Marie Brown (Isaac), Janie Osborne (Walter) Margaret Bannister (Kenneth), Ann McCaffrey (Jack); Ada Ring (Eddie), and Georgina Acorn (Harold); brothers and their spouses, James Laird (Greta), Percy Laird (Murial) and George Laird (Jean); granddaughter, Kyla Michelle DeHaan. Arrangements are entrusted to Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 10:00 am from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the SPCA – Animal Rescue League, Extra Mural West Saint John or any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
