Obituary of Constance S. Allen
CONSTANCE S. (GILLILAND) ALLEN OF Westfield, New Brunswick, loving wife and best friend of Douglas N. Allen for over 59 years. Born on August 16, 1922, in Westfield, daughter of the late Frank and Jennie (Smith) Gilliland. Connie was raised in Saint John and Westfield, graduating from Saint John High School (1940) and Saint John Vocational School (1941). Before her marriage in 1954, she worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia head office in Saint John, the Saint John Iron Works and CIL in Montreal. Always active in a variety of sports, such as tennis, badminton and cross country skiing, Connie became an avid golfer in 1948, and had been a member of Westfield Golf and Country Club for 65 years, serving on committees, participating in many club functions and events. Connie was also a member and past president of the New Brunswick Ladies’ Golf Association. A lifelong member of Westfield United Church and life member of the UCW, she had been active in many capacities. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Kathryn (Kathy) (Bill) Cameron, of Westfield, David (Sue) Allen of Rothesay; four grandchildren: Sara Jayne Cameron, David Cameron, Bradley Allen and Elizabeth (Beth) Allen; a sister, Elizabeth (Betty) (Don) Little of Wolfville, NS; nephews and niece, Michael and Bill Hicks, and Peter and Jane Little. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Jean (Bruce) Hicks and nephew, Robert Little. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 from 2:00 – 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held from Westfield United Church on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, Westfield United Church or any charity of the donor’s choice, would be appreciated.
