Obituary of Thelma Grace Smyrl

It is with heavy hearts the family of Thelma G. (Melanson) Smyrl, loving wife of Jack Smyrl, announce her passing which occurred on Friday, September 11, 2015 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on July 26, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Lillian (Bowe) Melanson. In addition to her husband, Jack, of 45 years, Thelma will be missed by her children, Wayne "Roddie" Tonge (Sandra), Barbara Ernst (Gary) and Bonnie Rattray (Gerry), Jacolynne Smyrl-LeBlanc (Michael), Richard Smyrl (Florinda), Mark Smyrl (Mary Ann), Tammy Tonge-Roy; a sister, Barbara Judge (The late Harry); a sister-in-law, Vera Melanson; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Thelma was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Melanson and Allan Melanson. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Bayshore Home Health, especially Dale and Jennifer for their kindness and compassion they showed to Thelma, and to family friends Gerald and Christina for their hours of selfless help and attention. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visiting on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A celebration of Thelma’s life will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 10:00 AM from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances made to the Salvation Army, Saint John Police Association, or any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
