Obituary of Roger Milton Stilwell

It is with great sadness that the family of Roger Stilwell of Saint John, beloved husband of Angela (Ward) Stilwell announce his passing, which occurred peacefully after a long illness on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Carleton Kirk Nursing Home. Born on May 28, 1955 in Saint John, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Doris (Slocum) Stilwell. Roger was a kind and generous man with an amazing sense of humour and he loved his family and his pets. Together with Angela, he enjoyed traveling to many locations, which included the Caribbean, Alaska, Mexico, New York, Florida and Cuba. Roger also loved his trips to Steve’s hunting lodge and to Cormier’s camp at Grand Lake for boys’ weekends. He was the family "Mr. Fix It" and you could always count on him to lend a helping hand. Prior to his illness, Roger had worked at Point Lepreau as an electrical technician for more than 35 years and was always a dedicated and loyal employee. Roger was proud of becoming a licensed pilot along with his buddy Steve; fulfilling his lifelong dream of flying a plane. During his time at Carleton Kirk Nursing Home, Angela spent her days looking after him and was by his side when he passed just as she was throughout his life. He will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife of 32 years Angela, Roger is also survived by his daughter, Stephenie Breau (Rheal) of Saint John; step-son, Peter Blauveldt of Alberta; brother, Gary Stilwell (Shelley) of Saint John; sisters, Sandra McLeod, Joan Dowd (Bill) and Diane Cormier (Brian) all of Saint John; precious grandchildren, Cameron Roger Breau and Rheanne Victoria Breau; mother-in-law, Eleanor Ward of Saint John; sisters-in-law, Pat Stilwell, Claudette Stilwell and Alison Fitzpatrick (Brian) all of Saint John; brother-in-law, Dwight Ward (Brenda) of Guelph, Ontario; best friends, Steve Humphrey of Saint John and George Vaughan of Ontario; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and many close friends. Besides his parents, Roger was also predeceased by his brothers, Wayne and Blaine; as well as his father-in-law, Don Ward. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Friday, October 23, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. The funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue, Bobby’s Hospice or Carleton Kirk Lodge Recreation Department.
