Obituary of Margaret Eleanor Beckett

On February 7, 2015 our beloved mother, Margaret Eleanor Beckett (Shannon) passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Margaret was the widow of Fred Beckett, who died on November 6, 2012 and the daughter of the late Helen (Cameron) and Roy Shannon. She leaves to mourn her daughters, Beth Vaughan and Ann Johnston (David); her sons, Joseph Beckett (Myra) and Bruce Beckett (Debbie); her much loved grandchildren: Michael and Neal Beckett, Mark, Peter, and Steven Johnston, Katherine and Emily Vaughan, and Andrew Surrette; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; special niece, Ruth-Ann and friend Tanya. Margaret attended St. Peter’s Girls School, St. Vincent’s High School and Mount Carmel Academy. She was a member of St. Peter’s CWL and a past volunteer of North End Food Bank, Saint John Regional Hospital, and Mother of Perpetual Help Library. Margaret was a retiree of the Ward Chipman Library at UNBSJ where she enjoyed many years of fellowship with faculty and staff. She was pre-deceased by her parents; brother, Don; and sisters: Jean McFarlane and Edna Pearson; and grandson, Matthew Vaughan. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Peter’s Church, 50 Clarendon Street, on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 11am. A private family graveside will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Palliative Care Unit, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
