Obituary of Elinor Marie Sheehan

Sheehan, Elinor Marie (Forestell), of Saint John, died peacefully on October 16, 2015 at Bobby’s Hospice, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 27, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Katherine (McGrath) Forestell, and beloved wife of the late Gerald Joseph Sheehan. Elinor derived her greatest joy from her family, her wide circle of friends and her Catholic faith. She was past President of the Cathedral Catholic Women’s League, a member of the Cathedral Parish Council, St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary, Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary, St. Vincent de Paul Society, and also served on many civic committees for the City of Saint John. Elinor is survived by her son, John (Susan), of Grand Bay-Westfield; daughters, Marykate, of Saint John, and Nora (David Rosser), of Toronto; her grandchildren, Dr. Brendan Sheehan (Duyen Nguyen) of Saint John and Catherine Saunders (Jake) of Fredericton; her sister, Sister Barbara Forestell, SCIC, of Saint John; her sisters-in-law, Margaret Gormley and Isobel Forestell of Saint John and Margaret Forestell of Fredericton, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Aside from her parents and husband, Elinor was predeceased by her sister Katherine Forestell and brothers, John, James, Harry, Francis, David and Thomas Forestell. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visitation on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:10 PM on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Waterloo St., Saint John, NB. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Cathedral Restoration Fund, Romero House, Bobby’s Hospice, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
