Obituary of Gerald Jerome Ryan

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the death of Gerald J. Ryan, husband of Sonya (Buckingham) Ryan, occurred on May 17, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born, 1927 in Barnesville, NB, he was the son of the late Arthur and Eunice (Reynolds) Ryan. He was the owner/operator of Ryan Construction, owner of ABC Sporting Goods, a co-owner of Stephen Construction and in his later years was associated with Classic Construction. He was a member of the New Brunswick Road Builders Association and the Saint John Construction Association. He was an avid Harness Racing enthusiast and was an owner of many award winning horses. He was a sponsor of many local hockey and baseball teams. Surviving are his children Geraldine Ryan (Rick Janson) of Ontario, Steve Ryan (Julie Corkum) of Quispamsis, Vic Ryan (Judy Garnett) of Saint John, Maureen Bernard of Saint John, Patti Nicholson (Blair) of Rothesay, Tim Ryan of Saint John, Peter Ryan of Saint John and Lisa Hovey (Mark) of Saint John, grandchildren Paul Doiron (Lori) and Colleen Doiron, Kerry Donahue (Mark), Scott Bernard, Sheena Ryan, Adam Sterling, Lauren and Caroline Hovey, great-grandchildren Allison Doiron and Malachy McGivery, brothers Joseph Ryan (Marg), John Ryan (Donna) sister Marguerite Slattery, sister-in-law Betty Ann Ryan, and several nieces and nephews. His brother Clement predeceased him. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), with visiting on Monday and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Mass of Christian Burail will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 am from St. Joachim’s Church. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Remembrances made to Hospice of Saint John would be appreciated by the family.
