Obituary of Wellington A. Smith

Wellington Anthony Smith of Saint John, loving husband of Muriel (Burbridge) Smith, passed away peacefully at Bobby’s Hospice on Wednesday, June 19, 2013. Born in Saint John on May 1, 1931, he was a son of the late Edward and Mary Agnes (Mitchell) Smith. Welly worked as an electrician on various projects in the area, and was a member of the IBEW for more than 35 years. He was also an active member in the Knights of Columbus, and enjoyed bowling, darts, pool, backgammon, and cribbage. In addition to his wife of 52 years, Welly is survived by his children: Agnes Richard (Kevin) of Saint John, Edward Smith (Theah) of Minnesota, Wellington R. Smith (Deborah) of Saint John, Walter Smith (Margaret-Ann) of Moncton, Blair Smith (Tim Arsenault) of Moncton, Jacqueline Smith (Charles Carson) of Saint John, and Louis Smith (Christina) of Saint John; ten grandchildren, Melissa, Marc, Michelle, Craig, Rebecca, Matthew, Victoria, Zackery, Michael, and Ryan; and several nieces and nephews. Welly was predeceased by his siblings Olive Proulx, Edward Smith, and Daniel Smith. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Sunday, June 23, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church on Monday, June 24, 2013 at 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to Bobby’s Hospice or the Extra Mural Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
