Obituary of Mary Doris Gray

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Mary Doris (Robichaud) Gray, wife of the late Alfred Joseph Gray, which occurred on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at the Loch Lomond Villa Inc. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mary was born on October 28, 1925 in Richibucto, NB, she was a daughter of the late Jacques and Odelie (Doiron) Robichaud. She is survived by one son, Gerald "Jerry" Gray (Wendy) of Rothesay; two grandchildren, Darrin Gray (Madoka Gray-Mitsumune) of Montreal and Heather Price (Richard) of New Zealand; one great-grandson, Zachary Gray-Mitsumune. Besides her husband and parents she was predeceased by four brothers, Euclide, Fidele, Emile and Arthur Robichaud; three sisters, Loudie Richard, Melvina Gray and Eva Richard; daughter-in-law Gail. Mary spent all her married life in East Saint John attending Stella Maris Parish in the 40’s and 50’s and moving to Champlain Heights in the 60’s and then attending St. Joachim’s Church and joining the CWL. When Mary’s only child "Jerry" grew into adolesence, she began her working career at uptown restaurants including Woolworths where she became the head waitress at the soda fountain. The store and it’s eating area was a center of attraction at that time for uptown visitors and workers, long before the building of shopping malls. Many Saint Johners will recall lunches at the counter with it’s rotating stools and waitresses all dressed in white. Mary was a great cook and enjoyed family, friends, playing cards, many house parties and road trips. Later in life she traveled to the Dominican with some of her life long friends. She will be missed but her influence will never be forgotten. The family extends a sincere thank you to the nurses and staff of Elm Lane at the Loch Lomond Villa for the special care and compassion shown to Mom and her family during this very difficult time, and over the past seven years. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (634-7424) with visiting on Monday February 18, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel at 12:00 pm. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish remembrances to Huntington’s Society or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Online remembrances and condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com.
