Obituary of Monica Clark

Clark, Monica "Mona" – Mom passed away on Friday, September 20, 2013 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was born on April 23, 1924 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, to the late David and Isobel (Fielding) Bingham. Mom met Dad, the late Percy Clark, former Fire Chief for the City of Saint John, when he was on duty in Belfast with the Royal Canadian Navy. After a whirlwind courtship they got engaged and Mom sailed to Canada aboard the RMS "Aquitania" which landed at Pier 21, Halifax, NS in October of 1948. Mom lived with Dad’s parents Mr. & Mrs. Robert Clark until they were married on February 5, 1949. They had many memorable trips together and with close friends, thought-out Canada, United States and Europe. Mom belonged to a card club that met weekly and they shared many laughs and good times. Some of the girls played cards together nearly 60 years. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, which she attended every week, until her illness. Mom is survived by her daughters, Paula Coleman (Peter), Brenda Clark (David Trites) and Michele Herrington (Roger); granddaughter, Sarah Coleman of Halifax, NS; sisters-in-law: Edna Flewelling (John) and Jackie Clark and many nieces and nephews in Saint John and Belfast, Northern Ireland. She was predeceased by her husband, parents; sister Emmie; brother, David; infant daughter, Shelley Ann; nephew, Philip and niece Monica. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Saint John Regional Hospital, 3BS for the special care and kindness shown to our mother and our family. Also a special thanks to Dr. Jane Ashfield for all her care and compassion. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan's Chapel on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 12 noon. A private interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Alzheimer’s Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, and the Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
